Your Pets Need Protection against mosquito bites

Your pets can easily become mosquito Victims!

When mosquitoes bite a cat or a dog they can transmit the heartworm parasite to them.  The heartworm is a thin worm that enters the blood vessels and the heart of those unfortunate animals. The parasite can be more easily transmitted to dogs rather than cats.

Symptoms of the heartworm disease appear after about a year from the moment of infection. Pets seem to get tired easily, stop being lively and appear to be sluggish most of the time.  When the infection gets serious, pets cough up blood because of their ruptured blood vessels.

Their condition deteriorates very quickly as their blood vessels get blocked and animals usually have to suffer a lot of pain before they finally collapse and die.

In order to minimize the risk of your pets being exposed to mosquito bites and to this dangerous disease, consider the implementation of the following preventive measures:

  • All sources of stagnant water in your garden or near your home should be removed. Empty all the remaining water in buckets after use, and make sure that drains are not blocked.
  • Change dishes of water daily and wash them well.  Never let water stagnate as it will attract mosquitoes.
  • Don’t let your pets go out at dawn or at dusk if you know that there are mosquitoes around.  Dawn and dusk are mosquito feeding times and your pets are more in danger then. Also keep them in when the weather is cool.
  • If you want your pets to be fully protected, shave a small part of their coat under the collar and apply a  MosquitoPatch
